“What if who I think I am is not who I am?” It’s a question worth asking as it reveals our limiting beliefs that can hold us back. It can also reveal potential we have not yet tapped.

These thoughts and limiting beliefs create the box we live in and the identity we believe is us. Once we are aware of what is holding us back, we can begin to choose new thoughts and actions that are more in alignment with who we are when we are living our fullest potential. When you are living in a box, you can feel the energy of that experience. It is heavier and, at times, suffocating. Sometimes it feels safe but really it is complacency. There is no adrenaline rush, no alive feeling inside that box. It is a serviceable way to live life. It gets you through but the person in that box is not your true essence. Your true essence is full of power, energy and inspiration. It is unstoppable and unquenchable.

Stepping out of the box can feel uncomfortable or even downright scary. I have two tools you can use to push past living life as who you think you are into a more inspired, energized and full life:

1. Don’t do it alone! Build a support network. When it was time for me to launch my coaching business and finally do the life’s work I know I was meant to do, I hired a coach to work with me to move past the fears of starting a new business. I also put together what I like to call my Board of Directors – people who fully support my goals.

2. Choose one thing you can do this week that pushes you out of your comfort zone in an area where you want to begin to live an expanded view of yourself. If you’ve been waiting to try something new, then make this week the week you do it…take that class, plan that trip, ask that person you’ve been eyeing for several months out. If the thought of taking that step makes you squirm a bit, you are right on target.
