Every choice we make has implications and can impact the outcomes of our actions Even something as simple as how we get out of bed in the morning. Think about it for a moment. How do you start your day? Are you gently roused from your sleep by a calming chime or does a blaring alarm startle you awake? Do you take a few moments or do you jump to your feet, hurdle yourself into the shower, and follow up with a series of rushed steps from bed to boardroom?

If you don’t already have a morning ritual to help you consciously shift into your day, here are a few tips for you:

  1. Breathe – take a few moments to slowly breathe in and out. Breath is our life force. Just one minute of mindful breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth can make a big difference.
  2. Plan – think about the day ahead. What are some goals you’d like to achieve?
  3. Focus – How do you want to experience your day? I find choosing a word for the day sometimes helps me go through it more consciously. Some days it may be ‘productivity’ or ‘creativity’ or ‘energized’.

You don’t need to meditate for an hour (but feel free to do so if that works for you). Just take a few short minutes to slow down how you step into your day and see what changes.
