It’s not often we get a streak of rainy weather in California…one of the many things I love about living here. But this past week, a gray drizzle has hidden the sun from us. It’s a good thing, of course. Rain helps things to flourish, washes away the dust and clears the air.
As I was driving along a stretch of road this morning, I found myself missing the sun. There’s nothing I love more than the image of green palm leaves plastered up against a blue sky with the golden rays lighting up our day.
Looking outside ourselves for an external source of light and warmth means we’re at the mercy of external circumstances. So how can we find that internal sun to brighten our days no matter what is going on around us? It will be different for each person.
Asking yourself what brings lightness and joy into your life that feels as good as lifting your face on a sunny day to the sky and feeling the warmth of its glow? What energizes you, inspires you and lifts you up?
The gift of the rain today for me was guiding me to the realization that dance is my internal source of sunshine. No matter what challenges I may be facing, no matter what the weather, no matter how full of a schedule I may have, dancing even a few steps will light it up. I always have the sun with me…even when the weatherman is reporting scattered showers and gray skies.
What gets you through the rainy days?
